Hue - Review
Platforming - With a Puzzling Twist!
Hue from Fiddlesticks is mechanically very simple: you change the environment colors to solve the puzzle and progress. On the surface it’s simple, but over the course of the game the puzzles become more thoughtful and complex. There’s a fine balance between the platforming and puzzling in motion that never feels overwhelming.
The story could have been non-existent and the game would have still been a great exercise in puzzle-platforming. In terms of replay, there’s really only finding the hidden flasks. There are no built-in time-trials, no challenge modes, and no bonus levels. You’ll have to challenge yourself if you want something more from it.
Hue is a fun and concise game with very creative platforming puzzles. It’s short run time paired with frequently being on sale makes a nice casual experience without much barrier to entry. The story doesn’t have quite the emotional weight it suggests at the beginning but that doesn’t take away from the experience. All told, Hue is a wonderful pick up and play experience worthy of your time.
